Shyamalan's 'Glass' is Engaging Almost Until the End

I don’t think anyone will deny that M. Night Shyamalan is a great storyteller. He initially proved that with the release of The Sixth Sense. The symbolism of the color red, the odd scenes that made very little sense until the end of the movie and of course, the amazing twist that nobody saw coming. That incredible twist has almost been the director’s undoing. Since 1999, not one of his other movie’s endings have had the same impact, but he continues to try.

In 2000, Mr. Shyamalan hoped that lightening would strike twice with Unbreakable which also starred Bruce Willis. Like The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable was a mystery only this time, the story featured the lone survivor of a train crash who left the accident without a scratch on him and an incredibly fragile, wheelchair-bound, comic book enthusiast which appeared to be the polar opposite. Sally Field is Born
Sally Margaret Field was born on this day in 1946 in Pasadena, California. She got her start in acting starring in the sitcom, Gidget which aired on ABC from 1965-1966. Gidget wasn’t a hit show, but ABC wanted to give Field another shot starring in a series. She was cast as Sister Bertille for The Flying Nun which aired from 1967 to 1970. After appearing in several guest spots on popular TV series, Field was again cast in another sitcom called The Girl with Something Extra which also starred John Davidson. It aired on NBC from 1973 to 1974. Field became know for her dramatic acting when she appeared in the TV miniseries Sybil about a woman with multiple personality disorder. The role won her an Emmy Award in 1977. Since then, she moved to movies appearing in Smokey and the Bandit (1977), Norma Rae (1979) which earned her first Oscar for Best Actress and Places in the Heart (1984) which earned her second Oscar for Best Actress. Other film roles include Murphy’s Romance, Steel Magnolias and Mrs. Doubtfire. In 2001, she made appearances on the TV series ER and starred in the ABC show, Brothers & Sisters. In 2014, Field received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Fire Destroys Part of Universal Studios
It was on this day in 1990 that a fire broke out in Universal Studios backlot and destroyed some of the studios most iconic stage sets as well as some tourist attractions. Destroyed sets included those used for Back to the Future, a King Kong exhibit and a streetscape. It was the second fire at the studio within 20 years.
