'Instant Family' Will Pull Your Heartstrings in a Good Way

What started as an older man’s joke about wanting to adopt a five-year-old instead of starting from scratch, Instant Family was inspired by writer and director Sean Anders’ real-life family. Pete (Mark Wahlberg) “accidentally” makes the joke to his wife Ellie (Rose Byrne) not wanting to be become that “old dad” everyone knows and before you know it, the two are traveling down to road toward foster care adoptions. After numerous classes taught by two caseworkers (Octavia Spencer and Tig Notaro), the two meet three kids at a “foster fair” gathering. Lizzy (Isabela Moner) is the 15-year-old older sister who has protectively looked after her younger siblings Juan (Gustavo Quiroz) and Lita (Julianna Gamiz) while their mother has been incarcerated. She’s a tough cookie with trust issues. Juan is both accident prone and highly sensitive and Lita is super sweet as long as she gets to eat potato chips at every meal. Melissa McCarthy is Born
American actress, comedian, producer and screenwriter Melissa McCarthy was born on this day in 1970. She first got people’s attention in 2000 playing the role of Sookie St. James for the Gilmore Girls TV series, a role she would continue to play through 2009 (and then again years later in the 2016 reboot of the show). McCarthy also starred in the ABC comedy, Samantha Who? from 2007-2009 and then became well-known acting in the CBS comedy, Mike & Molly from 2010-2016. Melissa is married to actor and moviemaker, Ben Falcone who has appeared in cameo roles in many of McCarthy's movies including Bridesmaids, Identity Thief and Spy. Together they have two children.

'Mary Poppins' Premieres
It was this day in 1964 that Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke attended the premiere of the classic musical, Mary Poppins along with Walt Disney and P. L. Travers, the author of the book of the same name. Music was composed by the Sherman Brothers who went on to compose many more songs for the Disney Company. The film was unique in that if featured an animated/live action sequence with cartoon penguins dancing with Van Dyke. It was nominated for 13 Academy Awards and won five for Best Actress for Andrews, Best Film Editing, Original Music Score, Best Visual Effects, and Best Original Song for "Chim Chim Cher-ee." In 2013, the film Saving Mr. Banks, telling the story behind of the story of the making of the film, arrived in theaters with Emma Thompson playing the role of Travers and Tom Hanks as Walt Disney. In 2018, Emily Blunt will be filling in for Andrews playing Poppins in the long awaited sequel, Mary Poppins Returns in which Van Dyke will make a cameo appearance. Andrews however will not stating that she feels this is Blunt's movie and didn't want to take anything away from her.
