Shyamalan's 'Glass' is Engaging Almost Until the End

I don’t think anyone will deny that M. Night Shyamalan is a great storyteller. He initially proved that with the release of The Sixth Sense. The symbolism of the color red, the odd scenes that made very little sense until the end of the movie and of course, the amazing twist that nobody saw coming. That incredible twist has almost been the director’s undoing. Since 1999, not one of his other movie’s endings have had the same impact, but he continues to try.

In 2000, Mr. Shyamalan hoped that lightening would strike twice with Unbreakable which also starred Bruce Willis. Like The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable was a mystery only this time, the story featured the lone survivor of a train crash who left the accident without a scratch on him and an incredibly fragile, wheelchair-bound, comic book enthusiast which appeared to be the polar opposite. Melissa McCarthy is Born
American actress, comedian, producer and screenwriter Melissa McCarthy was born on this day in 1970. She first got people’s attention in 2000 playing the role of Sookie St. James for the Gilmore Girls TV series, a role she would continue to play through 2009 (and then again years later in the 2016 reboot of the show). McCarthy also starred in the ABC comedy, Samantha Who? from 2007-2009 and then became well-known acting in the CBS comedy, Mike & Molly from 2010-2016. Melissa is married to actor and moviemaker, Ben Falcone who has appeared in cameo roles in many of McCarthy's movies including Bridesmaids, Identity Thief and Spy. Together they have two children.

'Mary Poppins' Premieres
It was this day in 1964 that Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke attended the premiere of the classic musical, Mary Poppins along with Walt Disney and P. L. Travers, the author of the book of the same name. Music was composed by the Sherman Brothers who went on to compose many more songs for the Disney Company. The film was unique in that if featured an animated/live action sequence with cartoon penguins dancing with Van Dyke. It was nominated for 13 Academy Awards and won five for Best Actress for Andrews, Best Film Editing, Original Music Score, Best Visual Effects, and Best Original Song for "Chim Chim Cher-ee." In 2013, the film Saving Mr. Banks, telling the story behind of the story of the making of the film, arrived in theaters with Emma Thompson playing the role of Travers and Tom Hanks as Walt Disney. In 2018, Emily Blunt will be filling in for Andrews playing Poppins in the long awaited sequel, Mary Poppins Returns in which Van Dyke will make a cameo appearance. Andrews however will not stating that she feels this is Blunt's movie and didn't want to take anything away from her.
