Director Sean Anders Talks About His Own ‘Instant Family’

INTERVIEW
Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne’s comedy/drama film, Instant Family appears to be an instant hit with both critics and audiences alike. Sure, not everyone is a fan, but I suspect that people don’t actually have kids themselves. Those that do, appreciate all of the chaos and (at times) the corniness that is a part of family life. In the movie, Wahlberg and Byrne play a couple who want to start a family, but sort of feel that they are a bit old to be just starting and find themselves looking into foster care adoption and end up adopting a teen girl and her two younger siblings. Unrealistic you say? Try telling that to Sean Anders who co-wrote the script and directed the movie. He lived it. Well, mostly.

I met Anders last week to talk about Instant Family just before the film opened and my biggest question for him was how much of this film was actually based on real life. “A lot of it,” he said and then went on telling me a story about how his family came to be.

NSYNC First #1 Hit Song

The famed American boy band, NSYNC, was formed in 1995 and consisted of Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, and Lance Bass. It is said that the group got inspiration for its name from Timberlake’s mother who had commented on how “in sync” all of their voices were together. Though extremely popular from the get go, it wasn’t until this day in 2000 that one of the group’s songs make it to the top of the list. “It’s Gonna Be Me” was the second single released from the group’s No Strings Attached album which sold over 9.9 million copies. Over the years, the band has sold over 70 million albums. Though the group was nominated for seven different Grammy awards, they never won any. Though their last album came out in 2001, it wasn’t until 2007 that the NSYNC actually confirmed that they were no longer a group.

Charles and Di Get Married

Prince Charles and Diana were wed on this in 1981. The wedding of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Lady Diana Spencer took place on this day in 1981 at St Paul's Cathedral in London. The spectacle created a media frenzy calling the event the "Wedding of the Century". Hundreds of items were created with the pair’s smiling faces. Approximately 3,500 people attended the wedding in person while another 750 million watched from their TVs. Many in America attended viewing parties during the middle of the night. Sadly, the couple separated in 1992 and later divorced in 1996. Charles and Di’s son, Prince William married Catherine Middleton on April 29, 2011 and the couple appears to be living a happier life than they did. (Photo: Flickr)
