When Linus Met Sally and Other Famous Fictional Couples

You have to be pretty hard-hearted to not get a least a little lump in your thought when you think of some of fictional couples. But have you ever stopped to think just how these crazy lovebirds ever got together? The answers may surprise you.

Linus Van Pelt and Sally Brown
According to the comic strip, Charlie Brown’s sister, Sally was born on May 26, 1959 where Charlie marked the occasion by passing out chocolate cigars to his friends. She grew up quickly. She took her first steps on August 22, 1960 and she fell in love with Linus, Lucy’s brother, on the next day. It was love at first sight, at least on her part. Sally has often referred to Linus as her “Sweet Baboo.” Her dedication to her man seems endless. She has missed out on “tricks and treats” by sitting in a pumpkin patch waiting for the Great Pumpkin and she was incensed that Linus would snub her a Valentine’s gift in favor for his teacher, Miss Othmar. Still, she clings hopelessly in love with the stripe …

This Day in Pop Culture for March 25

Elton John was born on March 25, 1947.

Elton John is Born

It was on this day in 1947 in Pinner, Middlesex that Reginald Kenneth Dwight, better known as Elton John, was born. By the age of three, John was already playing the piano and after playing for family and friends, he finally got serious and took up formal piano lessons at the age of seven. When John was 11-years-old, he won a junior scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music and stayed there for five years. When he began to get serious about a music career, his father tried to convince him to move toward a more conventional job like banking. In 1967 John met Bernie Taupin when they both answered an advert for songwriters. The two have been working together ever since. For two years, they wrote songs for other singers, but in 1969, John’s first album, Empty Sky, was released. His second album shot John to fame when the 1970 single, “Your Song,” reached the Top 10 in both the UK and the US. Together, John and Taupin have worked on over 30 albums throughout their careers. Elton John has sold more than 300 million records, has had more than 50 Top 40 hit songs and has written music for Disney’s The Lion King (both the movie and the Broadway musical) as well as Aida and Billy Elliot the Musical. Finally, John has won five Grammy Awards, five Brit Awards, one Oscar, one Golden Globe, a Tony Award, a Disney Legends Award and the Kennedy Center Honors in 2004.

The first Easter was on March 25, 31 AD.

March 25, 31 AD

Easter and its’ surrounding holidays are considered to be “moveable feasts” in that they do not adhere to a fixed date like Christmas or Valentine’s Day. It is believed that the very first Easter was held today in the year 31 AD according to calendar-maker Dionysius Exiguss. In Western Christianity, using the Gregorian calendar, Easter always falls on a Sunday between March 22 and April 25. Some countries celebrate “Easter Monday,” the day after Easter and many people are excused from work on that holiday.
