COMICS
Here’s to good intentions. DC Comics has announced that the comic book giant will be releasing a new parody series based on Jesus Christ through the companies DC Vertigo line. The adult graphic novel was written by Mark Russell with artwork created by Richard Pace and will arrive on store shelves on March 6, 2019.

A far cry from earlier religious comics from Spire in the 1970's, this new one will be tried out as a limited series but could becoming a regular one if it becomes popular. Second Coming is described by DC as follows:

“Witness the return of Jesus Christ, as He is sent on a most holy mission by God to learn what it takes to be the true messiah of mankind by becoming roommates with the world’s favorite savior: the all-powerful super hero Sun-Man, the Last Son of Krispex! Yesterday, Zach Williams won his first Grammy award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album, Chain Breaker. He beat out Danny Gokey’s Rise, Matt Maher’s Echoes, MercyMe’s Lifer and Tauren Well’s Hills and Valleys.

"I'm blown away and completely shocked.” Said Williams about the win. “I’m a huge fan of everyone in the category and honored to win. But without God none of this would be possible."

Now with a Grammy Award, Williams' 2018 kicked off to a great start as well when his debut radio single, "Chain Breaker," officially achieved official RIAA gold certification. The single, holding at No. 1 for 15 weeks, was followed by “Old Church Choir,” which became the most successful Christian radio single in over a decade when it held the top spot at radio for 20 weeks, making it the second longest running No. 1 single in Billboard's Christian radio history. Williams also made history as the first debut artist to have two back-to-back No. 1 singles.

Williams was also one of artists featured in New York Times’ “The Grammy Gems You Won’t Hear on ‘Music’s Biggest Night’" where author Jon Caramanica said of the artist, “There is often a meditative moan at the core of much contemporary Christian rock, but rarely is there a real growl. For this reason alone, Zach Williams’s “Chain Breaker,”… is refreshing. Mr. Williams sings with real heaviness, enacting a tactile cycle of exhaustion and redemption.”
