The Meg is Closer to ‘Jaws’ Than ‘Sharknado’

MOVIE REVIEW When Steven Spielberg’s Jaws opened in theaters in 1975, it took the world by storm. Not only was the movie hugely popular as it was genuinely scary, it actually affected society in a strange way. Audiences began to have an irrational fear of sharks even when swimming at a lake. When Jaws 2 came to theaters three years later, everyone knew the catchphrase, “Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water…” Since then, it’s been hard for movie studios to be able to drum up the same excitement with their own Jaws knock-offs. This Day in Pop Culture for November 7

Billy Graham was born on November 7, 1918

Billy Graham Turns 99

It was on this day in 1918 that William Franklin “Billy” Graham, Jr. was born in North Carolina who grew up to become a “celebrity” Southern Baptist minister. Unlike many other famous preachers, Graham is one of the most respected. He has held many “crusades” where thousands would attend and hundreds would turn their lives over to Jesus Christ. He has served as a spiritual advisor to many U.S. presidents, bailed Martin Luther King Jr. out of jail in the 1960’s and has operated a number of media and publishing outlets. Graham is mostly retired due to failing health. Still, having Parkinson’s disease since 1992, dealing with hydrocephalus, pneumonia, broken hips, and even prostate cancer, he still manages to celebrate another year with us.
