'Puzzle' is Well Made, but a Few Pieces are Missing

Based on the film Rompecabezas, Puzzle is one of those little-known independent films that sneaks into theaters with little to no fanfare, although the fact that it is being promoted “from the producer of Little Miss Sunshine” should help it get noticed somewhat. Puzzle is a quiet, little film about a woman who discovers that jigsaw puzzles are the key to changing her life. While the subject matter doesn’t sound all that exciting, the film really isn’t about puzzles but instead about one finding their voice, or so it appears. It’s also a message film that has its own agenda expecting the audience to agree with the choices of the main character and applaud her “brave” behavior. Frankly, it just feels manipulative.

Directed by Marc Turtletaub, Puzzle’s most impactful scene comes within the first few minutes. We see Agnes (Kelly MacDonald) cleaning up the house and they decorating it for a birthday party. Then we see her serving appetizers while being ignored by the guests. …

Yolanda Adams is Born


It was on this day in 1961 in Houston, Texas that gospel singer, radio host, producer and actress, Yolanda Adams was born. She graduated from Texas Southern University to become a schoolteacher, which she did for awhile, but gave it up to become a singer. To date, she has produced 13 albums. In 2009, Billboard Magazine named her the #1 Gospel Artist of the Last Decade. In summer of 2015, she performed for The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon where he joined her at the end of number, but she out-danced him.

After the founding of The Guinness Book of Records, the first 198-page edition was bound on this day in 1955. By Christmas, it had become the top of best sellers in England. In 1956, the book became available in the U.S. and sold 70,000 copies. Today, more than 100 million copies of the book have been sold in 100 different countries and in 37 different languages. It is the world’s best-selling copyright book ever.
