‘How to Train Your Dragon 3’ Proves How to Finish a Trilogy

While not exactly a golden rule, it is known fact that if a movie does well in the box office, chances are good that it will be followed by sequel and more often than not, we’ve come to expect that the sequel won’t measure up to the original. Add a third movie to the mix and you’re just asking for trouble. With animated movies, the expectations are often even lower. (Is anyone really surprised that the Ice Age movies keep getting worse?) But sometimes, as is the case with the Disney/Pixar Toy Story movies, we’re pleasantly surprised. Now you can add How to Train Your Dragon to that short list too.

One thing that DreamWorks Animation has understood about this series is that the story comes first, the hijinks come later. Now in its 17th year of celebration, the comic book industry celebrates the art and storytelling of comic books with Free Comic Book day on the first Saturday of May. It’s a way of giving back to fans and reaching out to new readers.

According to Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) over 2,300 comic book shops around the world will be giving away over 5,7 million of these free comics this weekend. "Free Comic Book Day is shaping up to be quite an event," said FCBD spokesperson Michael Moccio. "With such a broad range of titles this year tying into major properties like Guardians of the Galaxy, Wonder Woman, Rick & Morty, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, new and existing fans alike will find something they'll want to keep up with throughout 2017."

Among this year’s offering of free titles include the return of Underdog, an adaptation of Archie Comic’s TV series Riverdale, Disney’s Descendants, Barbie, The Tick, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and a lot more. In fact, 37 different publishers are offering 50 exclusive comic book titles and editions for Free Comic Book Day 2017.
