When Linus Met Sally and Other Famous Fictional Couples

You have to be pretty hard-hearted to not get a least a little lump in your thought when you think of some of fictional couples. But have you ever stopped to think just how these crazy lovebirds ever got together? The answers may surprise you.

Linus Van Pelt and Sally Brown
According to the comic strip, Charlie Brown’s sister, Sally was born on May 26, 1959 where Charlie marked the occasion by passing out chocolate cigars to his friends. She grew up quickly. She took her first steps on August 22, 1960 and she fell in love with Linus, Lucy’s brother, on the next day. It was love at first sight, at least on her part. Sally has often referred to Linus as her “Sweet Baboo.” Her dedication to her man seems endless. She has missed out on “tricks and treats” by sitting in a pumpkin patch waiting for the Great Pumpkin and she was incensed that Linus would snub her a Valentine’s gift in favor for his teacher, Miss Othmar. Still, she clings hopelessly in love with the stripe …

Chonda Pierce has had 'Enough'

Chonda Pierce: Enough
Chonda Pierce

Most people appreciate stand-up comedians for their humor only. Some comedians gain traction with their political views. But a few rise above the others because they are able to share a little more about themselves and can leave people not only laughing, but healing too. That’s Chonda Pierce.

She’s not a preacher, but she shares a lot of biblical truths with her humor and stories. And it’s not just Christians that recognize her skill in storytelling. Pierce has been a five-time Emmy nominee, has appeared on The View, Entertainment Tonight and Wanda Sykes. Six of her DVD’s have been certified Platinum and three others are certified Gold by the RIAA, the recording industry’s official sales tracking organization. In 2014, she was award a lifetime achievement award from RIAA.

It’s a cruel irony that so many of the best comedians have tragic or sad backstories and unfortunately, Pierce is a member of that club. That doesn’t mean that God can’t use her to tell her stories to inspire others and that is what she does. Next week, Chonda will share more of her life’s story in the documentary, Chonda Pierce: Enough, which will play in over 1,000 movie theaters for one night only, April 25. “Ultimately, it’s Chonda’s hope that the film will show that Christ is THE ‘enough,’ and propel women (and a few brave men) of any age, to begin a new, more fulfilling life journey,” states the website promoting the film.

Enough is a follow up to the Chonda Pierce: Laughing in the Dark documentary that shared about her struggle with depression after losing her mother, her struggles with her estranged daughter and her husband’s alcoholism and eventual death. It too received a “one night event” in 2015 at 500 movie theaters. The DVD was released in 2016 and has been a best-seller.

Pierce began her career in comedy by working at Nashville’s Opryland Theme Park where she performed as the legendary Grand Old Opry star Minnie Pearl. In 1996, she published her first book, Second Row, Piano Side which shared her insights growing up as a preacher’s kid. She later co-hosted the talk show, Aspiring Women, on the Total Living Network. This year, Pierce was invited to perform at one of the Presidential Inaugural Balls and was named to the President’s Faith and Family advisory board.
