'Puzzle' is Well Made, but a Few Pieces are Missing

Based on the film Rompecabezas, Puzzle is one of those little-known independent films that sneaks into theaters with little to no fanfare, although the fact that it is being promoted “from the producer of Little Miss Sunshine” should help it get noticed somewhat. Puzzle is a quiet, little film about a woman who discovers that jigsaw puzzles are the key to changing her life. While the subject matter doesn’t sound all that exciting, the film really isn’t about puzzles but instead about one finding their voice, or so it appears. It’s also a message film that has its own agenda expecting the audience to agree with the choices of the main character and applaud her “brave” behavior. Frankly, it just feels manipulative.

Directed by Marc Turtletaub, Puzzle’s most impactful scene comes within the first few minutes. We see Agnes (Kelly MacDonald) cleaning up the house and they decorating it for a birthday party. Then we see her serving appetizers while being ignored by the guests. …

Disney Channel Green Lights 'Descendants 2'

In a move that won’t surprise anyone, Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer for Disney Channels Worldwide, announced today that the network has given the greenlight to produce a new sequel to Descendants, an original Disney Channel movie that whose popularity rivals the High School Musical franchise. You may not be familiar with who the Descendants are, but your kids know.
 

Released in 2015, Descendants told the story about the teen children of Disney’s greatest villains exiled to live on the remote Isle of the Lost. Over in the kingdom of Auradon, Ben, the son of Beauty and the Beast is about to take his place in leadership and offers an olive branch to the wicked teens to attend the kingdom’s prep school which it lead by the Fairy Godmother. While not excited to attend the new school, the Descendants parents (Cruella De Vil, Maleficent, Jafar and the Evil Queen) push then on their way in hopes of taking over the land of Auradon, however in the end, good triumphed over evil.
