Shyamalan's 'Glass' is Engaging Almost Until the End

I don’t think anyone will deny that M. Night Shyamalan is a great storyteller. He initially proved that with the release of The Sixth Sense. The symbolism of the color red, the odd scenes that made very little sense until the end of the movie and of course, the amazing twist that nobody saw coming. That incredible twist has almost been the director’s undoing. Since 1999, not one of his other movie’s endings have had the same impact, but he continues to try.

In 2000, Mr. Shyamalan hoped that lightening would strike twice with Unbreakable which also starred Bruce Willis. Like The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable was a mystery only this time, the story featured the lone survivor of a train crash who left the accident without a scratch on him and an incredibly fragile, wheelchair-bound, comic book enthusiast which appeared to be the polar opposite. The story was intriguing, but basically fell apart near the end when the twist was revealed. Now almost 19 years later, the same thing ha…

NYE on TV 2016

New Year's Rockin' Eve 2016
Ryan Seacreat (ABC)
While many people will be standing outside in the cold for hours just to watch a big ball drop or to see some fireworks on New Year’s Eve, smarter people will be comfy and watch the very same spectacles from the comfort of their living rooms and then crash in their beds right after the clock strikes midnight. And if you don’t want to watch any of seasonal hubbub, then CBS is for you as they are presenting their normal Friday night lineup with no bells and whistles. In all cases, local news will air at it’s regular times. Here is what TV is offering this year:

New Year's Rockin' Eve 2016
Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2016
By the time you read this special’s title, it will be over. This year’s annual celebration stars Ryan Seacrest hosting from Times Square and for some reason, Jenny McCarthy will be “reporting live” with obnoxious people on the street. On the plus side, the show will feature 38 musical performances over the 5.5 hour long program. Performing this year are Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Demi Lovato, Wiz Khalifa and a Taylor Swift video.

Also, part of the special will take place at the Billboard Hollywood Party hosted by Fergie with performances by One Direction, 5 Seconds of Summer, Alessia Cara, DNCE, Fall Out Boy, Andy Grammer, Ellie Goulding, Nick Jonas, Elle King, Tove Lo, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, OMI, Pentatonix, Rachel Platten, Nathan Sykes, WALK THE MOON and Jimmy Buffett. The special begins at 8:00 p.m. on ABC.

New Year's Eve Game Night
NBC’s New Year’s Eve Game Night with Andy Cohen
If you don’t have a party to go to, you can be Andy Cohen’s guest as he sport his own version of Hollywood Game Night with guests John Stamos, Bob Saget, Bob Harper, Chris Parnell, Whitney Cummings, JB Smoove, Rob Riggle and Sasheer Zamata with Panic!at the Disco serving as the night’s band. No word on why Jane Lynch, who usually hosts the show, is not doing the honors. This special airs at 10:00 p.m.

New Year's Eve with Carson Daly
NBC’s New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly
I’ve never understood why Carson Daly is considered a great host, but at any rate, he will ring in the new year with Andy Cohen, Rob Riggle, Whitney Cummings (who were just on the Game Night special) and Gwen Stefani is set to perform her current single, "Used to Love You." Sounds like a yawner to me, but… This special will air at 11:30 p.m.

Pit Bull's New Year's Eve Special
Pitbull’s New Year’s Revolution Part 1 and 2
In what sounds like a lot more fun, Armando Christian Perez (aka Pitbull) is hosting his own special on FOX live from Bayfront Park in Miami, FL in two parts. Part one airs from 8:00-10:00 p.m. and part two airs from 11:00-12:30 p.m. Guests include Jussie Smollett, Shawn Mendes, Austin Mahone, Pia Mia, Prince Royce, R. City and more.

Magic Kingdom New Year's Eve Fireworks
Fireworks at the Magic Kingdom Park
