'Puzzle' is Well Made, but a Few Pieces are Missing

Based on the film Rompecabezas, Puzzle is one of those little-known independent films that sneaks into theaters with little to no fanfare, although the fact that it is being promoted “from the producer of Little Miss Sunshine” should help it get noticed somewhat. Puzzle is a quiet, little film about a woman who discovers that jigsaw puzzles are the key to changing her life. While the subject matter doesn’t sound all that exciting, the film really isn’t about puzzles but instead about one finding their voice, or so it appears. It’s also a message film that has its own agenda expecting the audience to agree with the choices of the main character and applaud her “brave” behavior. Frankly, it just feels manipulative.

Directed by Marc Turtletaub, Puzzle’s most impactful scene comes within the first few minutes. We see Agnes (Kelly MacDonald) cleaning up the house and they decorating it for a birthday party. Then we see her serving appetizers while being ignored by the guests. …

'VeggieTales' Pioneer Heads to Space

Galaxy Buck arrives in October 2015.

Phil Vischer, one of the creators of VeggieTales (and the voice of Bob the Tomato) is taking characters from his other series, What's in the Bible?, into space this October.

"Buck Denver and Friends learned a whole lot while making What's in the Bible? and now it's time to put that knowledge into practice," said Vischer. "Where better to do that than in deep space? Galaxy Buck gives us a whole universe to explore while showing kids what following Jesus looks like in real life. It isn't enough to know our faith. Through a group of lovable, space-faring puppets,Galaxy Buck will help kids learn to live their faith. I'm excited for families to join us for the ride."

For Vischer, the project is a very “hands on” experience. Not only does Vischer write and voice every line of the characters, but he has also hand-carved some of the miniature sets used in the new series and has explored different unique filmmaking techniques with the crew at Jellyfish Labs.

The first DVD in the trilogy, Galaxy Buck: Mission to Sector 9, will be released on October 20, 2015. The series is produced by his studio Jellyfish Labs in partnership with Creative Trust, which previously collaborated with Vischer on the successful Buck Denver Asks®...What's in the Bible?

"True to brand, Phil Vischer is not just creating a new series, he is concocting an innovative mash-up of exceptional story-telling with the most endearing group of characters in the universe," said Dan Raines, President of Creative Trust."Thanks to Phil and his creative team, there will not be a dull moment."
