Jordan Peele's 'Us' is a Creepy Tale That Sadly Mirrors Our Reality

On May 25, 1986, approximately 6.5 million Americans stood hand in hand forming a human chain that stretched from New York to California for an event called Hands Across America. It was a fundraiser project from USA for Africa (the same people who produced the “We Are the World” single the year before) in hopes of raising $100 million to fight hunger and homelessness. The hope was that everyone who participated would donate $10 for the cause. Families stood and sang together for 15 minutes. And then it was over.

I had trouble remembering if Hands Across America really happened or if it was a gimmick for the film when the original commercial for the event flashed on the big screen during the opening of Us. I only vaguely remember the event, which might have to do more with the fact that I have lived in Washington State my whole life and we weren’t involved in the project. I doubt that I’m the only one and I suspect that was also some of Jordan Peele’s reasoning as well whe…

The sequel to the 2011 surprise hit family movie, “Dolphin Tale,” will add two new members to the cast. It was announced today that Bethany Hamiliton, (the subject of the feature "Soul Surfer”) will join the cast of “Dolphin Tale 2.” Also joining the cast will be the real-life, new baby dolphin, Hope, who was saved and rehabilitated by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Together, the two will join the original film’s cast, including Harry Connick, Jr., Morgan Freeman, Kris Kristofferson, Ashley Judd, Nathan Gamble and Cozi Zuehlsdorff. Charles Martin Smith will also direct again as well as pen the second script.
As with the first, “Dolphin Tale 2” will tell another true story inspired by the life of the rescued bottle nose dolphin, Winter, the star of “Dolphin Tale.”

As you may recall, Hamilton, who will play herself in the film, was bitten by a 14-foot tiger shark while surfing off Kauai’s North Shore when she was only 13. She survived the attack but lost her arm in the process. Miraculously, she was able to return to the water after only one month. She went on to win the national title and became a professional surfer, to which she continues to do today.  She has become a source of inspiration to many through her story of faith, determination and hope.

“Dolphin Tale 2” is currently filming in Clearwater, Florida.  Warner Bros. Pictures will distribute the film and has slated the film for a September 19, 2014 release.
