As an alternative to the traditional haunted house, Victory Foursquare Church in Marysville, Washington is offering up, “Judgment Day” beginning tonight through Halloween. While it is an intense production, it is not another “hell house” featuring scenes of gore, teen drinking, abortions gone wrong and the like. Instead, it a 30 minute walk-through adventure that starts and ends in “heaven.” Along the way, guests will be treated to a history lesson on the creation the world, Adam & Eve and the origins of evil, the birth of Jesus and his death on the cross. There is also a brief “visit” in “hell” and few other surprises. If you live in the greater Seattle area, this may seem familiar to you. That may be because this is a revival of the same event held years ago in Everett.
Presented by local volunteers, Judgment Day seeks the haunted-house-going crowd, so there are more than a few scares through the dark maze. However, the point of the production is to share the gospel to people who won’t normally darken the door of their local church and give them something to think about. Sort of a passion play with a twist. It is full of special effects and detailed sets that are both beautiful and ugly, pleasant and scary.
Judgment Day is geared for teens and adults as some scenes will be too intense for young children (Children age six and under are not permitted and children ages 6-10 must be accompanied by an adult.)
“Tours” through Judgment Day leave the main area every five to seven minutes between the hours of 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. each night. The earlier guests arrive, the shorter the wait time will be. Tickets are free, but donations will be gladly accepted. Victory Foursquare is located at 11911 State Ave., Marysville, WA 98271. For more information call 360.651.1110 or email the church.
