This Day in Pop Culture for October 19

Colton Dixon was born on October 19, 1991

Colton Dixon is Born

It was on this day in 1991 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee that Michael Colton Dixon was born. During his high school years, Colton sang in the choir and played an extra in Hannah Montana: The Movie which came out in theaters in 2008. He and his sister, Schyler, auditioned for American Idol during the show’s tenth season but neither of them made it to the top 24 contestants. The following year, Colton went to the auditions for the show as a support for his sister with no intention of auditioning himself. He was encouraged to do so anyway. This time he made it through, but she did not. Making it to the top 25 that year, he was eliminated on April 19, 2012. However, in January 2013, Dixon released his first album, A Messenger with EMI-CMG/Sparrow Records. It sold 22,000 copies during the first week, made #15 on the Billboard 200 chart and #1 on the U.S. Christian Chart. In September 2015 was a busy month for Dixon as he released his second album, The Calm Before the Storm and he got engaged to Annie Coggeshall. The two were married on January 8, 2016. His third album, Identity, was released on March 24, 2017.

Colton Dixon Surprises Wife with an UBER Serenade for Valentines Day

Talk about your cross promotion! As I understand it, UBER teamed up with On Demand Serenades who teamed up with Hershey’s who teamed up with Christian singer Colton Dixon for one one-of-a-event and if you don’t live in Nashville, you probably didn’t hear about it.

On Friday, February 12, those living in Nashville could connect with UBER (an alternative taxi service for those who don’t know) and request a special “serenade” option from 12:00-3:00 p.m. For $20, UBER would send out local singers and musicians to serenade the couple in an impromptu performance. Each serenade came with a box of Hershey’s Deluxe chocolates, so the price was right.

According to a press release, singer Colton Dixon was the first person to order a serenade. The country trio known as Sister C, showed up at Revelator Coffee where newlywed Colton was enjoying a beverage with his new bride, Annie. (And the photo doesn't look posed at all!) The couple were wed on January 8 in Nashville.

All together now: “Ahhhhh…”

Colton Dixon Performs Live Tomorrow

Colton Dixon to perform on Fox and Friends on November 13, 2015.

Tomorrow morning, Colton Dixon will be performing live on FOX & Friends during the 8:00 a.m. hour where he will be singing his new release, “Limitless,” the most added song this week recorded on the AC Christian and Hot AC radio charts. You might know what that mean, but it’s pretty big, which is also one way to describe Dixon’s year.

Dixon is currently on tour with TobyMac on the “This is Not a Test” tour and recently announced that he will continue to tour with the band when it switches over to the “Hits Deep” tour in 2016.

In October, Dixon was awarded the Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year at the 46th Annual Dove Awards. (This is Dixon's second time winning Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year as he took home the award in 2013 for his debut album, A Messenger.)

During the summer, Dixon got engaged to girlfriend Annie Coggeshall at Walt Disney World during the “Night of Joy” event. (No, he did not propose to her on stage – he got down on one knee earlier in the day, but announced it that night at his concert.) For those single women out there who thought that God was keeping him for you: you were wrong.

Dixon’s song, “Limitless” is from his EP The Calm Before the Storm which was released earlier this summer. Check out my review.
