David McAlister "Dave" Barry was born on this day in 1947. The Pulitzer Prize-winning American author is best known for his syndicated humor column for The Miami Herald from 1983 to 2005, but he has also written numerous books of humor as well. From 1993-1997, CBS based a sitcom, Dave’s World, on the books of Barry. His first novel, Big Trouble was published in 1999 and was turned into a movie that starred Tim Allen in 2002. His most recent works have been the Peter and the Starcatchers series, prequel stories about Peter Pan, that he has written with Ridley Pearson. The first has been turned into a Broadway musical and Disney has plans to create a movie version as well.
