World’s Tallest Roller Coaster is Built

The steel roller coaster Magnum XL-200 opened for the first time on this day in 1989 at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. At the time, it was the tallest, fastest and steepest roller coaster in the world reaching up past 200 feet in height. It won the Golden Ticket Award for Best Steel Roller Coaster for three years (1998-2000) until it was passed by the Millennium Force which rose above 300 feet.
