ABC Celebrates 50 Years of a Charlie Brown Christmas

Kristen Bell, Kristen Chenoweth and Sarah McLachlan (ABC)
It’s a little odd that ABC has chosen to air two back-to-back family specials on a "school night." It is also a bit odd that they chose to air the special, It's Your 50th Christmas, Charlie Brown, that will probably appeal more to their parents at 8:00 p.m. and the holiday special, A Charlie Brown Christmas, that will probably appeal more to the kids, at 9:00 p.m. when many will be bed.

Be that as it may, it looks like it will be an enjoyable show. Kristen Bell hosts the musical show will feature live performances including Kristen Chenoweth (singing “Happiness” from the Broadway show, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, which was her breakout role), Matthew Morrison (sining “Just Like Me) and Sarah McLachlan (“Christmastime is Here”). The special also includes performances by Boys II Men, Pentatonix, David Benoit and The All-American Boy Chorus. There are also so fun moments shared including Fergie talking about her days voicing the role of Charlie’s little sister, Sally Brown for the TV specials, It’s Flashbeagle, Charlie Brown, Snoopy’s Getting Married, Charlie Brown and the Saturday morning TV show, The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show.

Pentatonix (ABC)
At 9:00 p.m., A Charlie Brown Christmas airs for its 50th year in a row. (If you are like me, you may remember when it was shown on CBS and was sponsored by Dolly Madison snack cakes, but I digress.) It’s the same as you remember it only digitally re-mastered to look better than ever. The special itself is only 30 minutes in length and is often paired with another Peanuts special, however, ABC hasn’t announced how they will be filling up the extra time.

A Charlie Brown Christmas will also re-air on December 20 at 9:00 p.m.
