40-Year-Old 'Jaws' to Return to Theaters

Jaws comes to theaters this Fathers Day. (Fathom Events)
Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the theater...
For some of us, it seems like only yesterday that we were warned about not going into the water with the release of the first summer blockbuster, Jaws. Alas, it has been 40 years since this film has been on the big screen, but Jaws is coming back for a “second feeding” in select theaters across the country on June 21 and 24, because what better way to celebrate Father's Day?

Presented by Fathom Events, TCM and Universal Studios, Jaws will be presented on Sunday, June 21 and Wednesday, June 24 at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. This version of the film contains a special introduction from TCM host, Ben Mankiewicz.

For those living under a rock for the last 40 years, here is the premise of the film: “It's a hot summer on Amity Island, a small community whose main business is its beaches. When new Sheriff Martin Brody discovers the remains of a shark attack victim, his first inclination is to close the beaches to swimmers. This doesn't sit well with Mayor Larry Vaughn and several of the local businessmen. Brody backs down to his regret as that weekend a young boy is killed by the predator. The dead boy's mother puts out a bounty on the shark and Amity is soon swamped with amateur hunters and fisherman hoping to cash in on the reward. A local fisherman with much experience hunting sharks, Quint, offers to hunt down the creature for a hefty fee. Soon Quint, Brody and Matt Hooper from the Oceanographic Institute are at sea hunting the Great White shark. As Brody succinctly surmises after their first encounter with the creature, they're going to need a bigger boat.” And it's based on a true story. (Just kidding).
