who is Derek Webb and why is he apologizing?

Winning the fictitious award for best album title of the year, Derek Webb’s “I Was Wrong, I’m Sorry & I Love You” is available today. To celebrate, Paste Magazine premiered the title track video today, Webb will perform live on WGN in Chicago this Friday, September 6 and his “Apology Tour” will kick off on September 26 starting in Philadelphia, PA.

Webb began his career as a member of Caedmon’s Call 20 years ago. Ten years ago, he released his first solo album, “She Must And Shall Go Free,” and now ten years later, he releases his follow up. In it, Webb plays almost every instrument in every song. He also wrote, recorded and produced every song on the record. Talk about a control freak.

In keeping with the tradition of his do-it-yourself project, Webb has his own style of self-promotion. Each week Webb has released new acoustic performance videos of each song. Today, the final one was released on Paste Magazine (click here to view it). In the web mag, he explains his motivation for the song and the album: “All growing up I heard there were three things you had to learn to say to keep any relationship going: ‘I was wrong,’ ’I’m sorry’ and ‘I love you,’” said Webb. “Being in my 20th year of writing and singing folk songs, occasionally songs on spirituality or politics, protest and disruption, this seemed like the perfect way to begin the new record.”

Even the ticket prices for his upcoming tour are unique:
