Jeff Foxworthy Hosts New Bible Game Show

After the success of “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?”, comedian Jeff Foxworthy has shown that he has what it takes to be a game show host. Now, Foxworthy is putting his talents to The American Bible Challenge. Billed as a game show that has been 3,400 years in the making, The American Bible Challenge celebrates the Bible and its place in American culture. It will premiere on the Game Show Network (GSN) later this month.

Which premiere on GSN August 23, 2012.
What sounds like a silly idea is actually quite good and worth watching with the whole family. The game features three teams of three players who play for cash prizes. But here is the twist – the contestants are playing for their favorite charity, not for themselves. The questions start out pretty easy and progressively get harder. The tone of the show is light-hearted, features a gospel choir and cute subject titles such as “The Word of the Lord or The Lord of the Rings” where contestants have to decide if a phrase is from the Bible or from the Tolkien masterpiece. Utilizing current as well as historical references, questions will be drawn from the rich, dense narrative found in the world's best-selling book.

Some may be surprised by the choice of Foxworthy as host, but he is great at his job. Known more for his comedy albums, best-selling books (11 in all!) and his redneck jokes, Foxworthy is also a devout Christian. The GSN website even features videos of the host talking about his faith.

The show is truly a game show, but is different from what you would expect. Each team shares their background which sometimes includes their personal testimony and a short history of the ministry that they are playing for. The hour long show could feature a few more questions in my opinion, but it fun to watch and will challenge your own biblical knowledge.

The American Bible Challenge is produced by RelativityREAL for GSN with  Tom Forman (Extreme Makeover: Home Edition) and Embassy Row's Michael Davies (The Newlywed Game, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire) serving as Executive Producers on the project.  Nick Stuart and Maura Dunbar of Odyssey Networks are Consulting Producers. The show will premiere Thursday, August 23 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on GSN.
