So, still don’t know what to do for your mom on Mother’s
Day? Here’s a last minute idea that just might work and save you some cash at
the same time.
Unexpected Productions is offering a night of Mother’s Day improv
comedy in Seattle, Sunday, May 13 at 7:00 p.m. Enjoy on-the-spot comedy acts
based on inspired stories about mom, with creative suggestions from moms in the
audience. Everyone in the family is sure to enjoy this evening and the best
part is moms get in for half price! Just use this discount code “MOM” when
ordering online or by phone. Plus, parking is free on Sundays. Now you can
become the “favorite child.”
For those who live up north, you too can take mom out for
some improv this Saturday night, May 12 at the Black Box Theatre, located at
Edmonds Community College, at 8:35 p.m. (Unfortunately, this location is not
offering the half off Mother’s Day deal.)
Unexpected Productions have been performing family-friendly
shows for many years in the Market Theater located in Pike Place Market. The
shows are fully improvised, meaning that there are no scripts and sketches
haven’t been rehearsed ahead of time. The group says that ‘blue humor’ is easy,
but they take improv too seriously to take the easy way out. “Occasionally,
audience members shout out off-color suggestions, but if we take them, we
challenge ourselves to use the suggestion in a creative and intelligent manner,”
says a UP representative on their website.
I personally have taken my family to a few UP productions
and while the performance wasn’t completely “squeaky clean,” it was much better
than most movies out there today. Plus, you can expose your children to live
theatre as well. We were not disappointed.
