'Mary Mary' release new music

Mary Mary - Sony Music

More of us are familiar with the musical duo Mary Mary than people realize due to the popularity of their first single, “Shackles (Praise You).” The crossover hit can still be heard on local Christian radio stations as well as shopping malls. And that song came out in 2000. Since then, the sister
Keep churning out new music, but it’s never the same.

Mary Mary is actually Erica and Tina. They are sisters born to an evangelist/choir director mother and youth minister father. The have six other siblings and all were involved in church choirs. However, Erica and Tina decided to venture out on their own. They are smart and sassy. Just don’t try to label them.

“People ask us all the time whether we’re gospel, inspirational or trying to go pop,” says Erica. “Tina and I are artists whose music fits in so many other places. That’s always been the leading force behind each of our albums. Knowing who we are, we know each album can be different from the next.”

Mary Mary has earned 3 Grammy Awards, 2 American Music Awards, an NAACP Image Award and a BET Award. They both are married and have children. And now the duo is not just radio stars, they are TV stars as well. It was just announced this week that their reality show on WE was renewed for a second season. Yet, the two say they are driven by something greater in their lives.

It’s not just about musical achievements, awards, charts and sales,” says Erica. “That’s not our guiding light. It’s about connecting with people and offering them real hope…hope that, ultimately, changes lives.”

“We’re committed to our message and purpose,” adds Tina. “Years later, we’re still here; our fans are still with us and our audience is still growing. We’re just so grateful to still have this opportunity.”

Tied into the duo's reality television series of the same name, their new album, “Go Get It” features two new songs: the show's rallying theme song, and "Sunday Morning," another one of Mary Mary's fine fusions of traditional and modern sounds. Otherwise, Go Get It works as a representative overview of the premier contemporary gospel act of the 2000s. It contains their two biggest crossover hits in "Shackles (Praise You)" and "God in Me," which topped the club and gospel charts, went Top Five R&B/Hip-Hop, and was used by professional baseball player Juan Pierre as at-bat music!
